What is Magar Veja?

मगर भेजा के हो ?

Magar Veja refers to the equal share or contribution that each household is required to pay for various communal activities such as worship, ritual ceremonies, construction, maintenance, and care within the Magar community. This cooperative system is known as "Veja" - a traditional Magar cooperative system.

"भेजा" भन्नाले मगर समुदाय भित्र कुनै किसिमको पुजा-आजा, झारा-पर्म, निर्माण, मर्मत , स्याहार सम्भार आदि कार्यको फच्चेको लागि प्रत्येक घरधुरीलाई समान दरले सशुल्क वा निशुल्कमा लाग्ने- लगाउने हिस्सा वा अंशलाई बुझिन्छ। वर्षको एकचोटी बस्ने विशेष भेजा (गुठ) को बैठकले नै आउने बर्ष कस्तो रितितिथि बसाल्ने, झारा पर्म, अन्नपात, पशु पक्षी, रक्सि आदिको मुल्य कति निर्धारण गर्ने, बाटोघाटो, धारा, चौतारा निर्माण र स्याहार सम्भारको आदिको निर्णय लिने प्रचलन थियो र अहिले पनि कतिपय मगर समुदायहरुमा यो परम्परा जीवितनै छ। सही माईनेमा "भेजा" मगरहरुको मौलिक सहकारी प्रणाली हो – Veja is a traditional Magar cooperative System.

Origin of the Term

शब्दको उत्पति

The word "Veja" originates from the Magar language spoken among the "Atharah Magarat" and is also recognized in the Nepali Dictionary. In simple Nepali terms, "Veja" translates to - share, portion, part - which means "share" in English. Generally, "Veja" indicates working together.

अठारह मगरात अन्तर्गत बोलिने मगर भाषाबाट "भेजा" शब्दको उत्पति भएको पाइन्छ र नेपाली बृहत शब्दकोषमा पनि यो शब्द र यसको अर्थले स्थान पाएको छ। मगर भेजाको सरल नेपाली शब्दमा अनुवाद गर्दा - हिस्सा, भाग, अंश, - अंग्रेजीमा -share - को अर्थ बुझाउछ। सामान्य अर्थमा भेजा भन्नाले संगै मिलेर काम गर्नुलाई जनाउछ।

Purpose

ध्येय:

To preserve and create contemporary Magar Veja (Guth) based on mutual respect among all communities for a sustainable and peaceful society, while facilitating the overall development of the Magar community.

सबै समुदायसंग आपसी सम्मानमा आधारित दिगो र शान्त समाजको लागि समय सान्दर्भिक परिष्कृत मगर भेजा (गुठ) को संरक्षण र सृजना गर्दै मगरहरुको समग्र विकासमा सहजीकरण गर्ने।

Looking through the pages of history, the Magars have been both rulers and subjects in Nepal's history. But the pain of being subjugated was that many of their histories were lost and many were destroyed. It is the responsibility of the Magar Veja Society and all its members to preserve the glorious history of the Magars, to protect their traditional rituals, to awaken the new generation to their glorious legacy as a symbol of the brave, honest, and loyal Gurkha people, to connect them with their roots, and to show them their foundation.

इतिहासका पानाहरु पल्टाउने हो भने मगरहरु नेपालको इतिहासमा "साशक र सोषित" (Both as rulers and subject) दुवै रुपमा रहेको पाइन्छ। तर, सोषित हुदाको पिडा के रह्यो भने मगरहरुको धेरै इतिहासहरु हराए, धेरै मेटाईए पनि। मगरहरुको गौरवपूर्ण इतिहास, पारम्परिक रिति-तिथिहरुलाई जोगाएर राख्ने, - सरल, इमान्दार, वफादार, साहसी वीर गोर्खालीको प्रायायवाचीको रुपमा रहेको मगर जातीको गौरवपूर्ण "लेगासी" लाई जोगाउनको लागि यस नया पुस्तालाई झक्झकाउने र आफ्नो जरो संग जोडी राख्ने र आफ्नो धरातल बुझाउने जिम्मेवारी मगर भेजा समाज र यस समाजसंग आबद्ध प्रत्यक अभिवावकहरुको हुनेछ ।

The real significance of the Magar Veja Society is also to prepare the current generation as global citizens. Such global citizens who understand their roots and live together with other communities with tolerance without discrimination of gender, caste, religion, color, or social status.

मगर भेजा समाजको वास्तविक सान्दर्भिकता वर्तमान पुस्तालाई विश्व नागरिकका रूपमा तयार पार्नु पनि हो । यस्तो विश्व नागरिक जो आफ्नो जरोलाई बुझेर- कुनै पनि लिङ्ग, जात, धर्म, रंग वा सामाजिक स्तरको भेदभाव नगरी शिर ठाडो पारेर अन्य सबै समुदायहरूसँग सहिष्णुतापुर्वक मिलेर बस्नेछ।

The Magar Veja Society will always encourage harmony and tolerance among different religions, castes, and communities and will keep itself away from communal elements that undermine social harmony.

मगर भेजा समाजले सदैव विभिन्न धर्म, जाति, सम्प्रदायहरु बीच सद्भाव र सहिष्णुतालाई प्रोत्साहन गर्नेछ र सामाजिक सद्भावलाई बिथोल्ने उग्र साम्प्रदायिक तत्वहरुबाट आफुलाई सधै टाढा राख्नेछ |

About Membership

Magar Veja Society was established in 2079 BS as a non-profit organization. With 13 founding members, the Magar Veja Society Nepal now has more than 100 households affiliated.

मगर भेजा समाज २०७९ सालमा स्थापना भएको गैर नाफामुलक संस्था हो। १३ जना संस्थापक सदस्य रहेको मगर भेजा समाज नेपालमा अहिले १०० भन्दा बढी घरधुरीहरु आबद्ध भईसकेको अवस्था।

Membership Process

सदस्यता जारी गर्ने र आवेदन दिने प्रक्रिया:

Interested individuals must submit an application to the Executive Committee of MBS Nepal along with a photocopy of citizenship. The Executive Committee will charge appropriate fees and provide the application form, and after discussion on the application, the Executive Committee will decide whether to grant membership to the applicant or not.

इच्छुक व्यक्तिहरुले सदस्यता प्राप्तिका लागि म. भे. स. नेपालको कार्यसमितिमा नागरिकताको फोटोकपी सहित निवेदन पेश गर्नुपर्ने। कार्यसमितिले उपयुक्त शुल्क लिएर आवेदन फारम उपलब्ध गराउनेछ र सो निवेदन उपर कार्यसमितिले छलफल गरि आवेदकलाई संस्थाको सदस्यता दिने वा नदिने निर्णय गर्नेछ।
